The majority of believers use devotionals as part of their regular quiet time. For most of us, at the end of a year spent with a different devotional scripture and thought each day, it’s impressive to remember even a dozen of the scriptures.
While devotionals are good and useful tools for navigating Bible study, which can easily be overwhelming and hard to approach, how much of what we read is actually sticking? How much of the Word have we digested at the end of a year? Simply reading the words provides only a small portion of the benefit we are meant to receive from scripture. Most of our growth comes when we have hidden the Word in our hearts (Psalm 119:11).
We have to ask some honest questions: Though we have a devotional time every day, if we can’t remember the passage two weeks later, how much of the Word are we really hiding in our hearts? Is it really changing our lives, or is it mostly a routine part of our day?
Look Again 52 was designed because we had the same problems, and we wanted a solution. The concept is simple: one scripture, every day, each week – for one year.
Our goal is to break scripture down non-abrasively without compromising what it says, to convey the truth in the Bible in a way that real people can understand. Look Again 52 is not created by seminary professors or designed to deal with the fine points of doctrine or theology. It is written by regular people and designed to get the Word into your life. The point is to chew on a single scripture every day for a week, to give it a chance to sink in and shape your life.
There is no fixed pattern to the structure of this devotional; there are four authors, each one writing thirteen weeks, who speak from their unique perspective on each scripture. There are elements of word study, Biblical referencing, stories from the author’s lives or other “heroes of the faith,” and much more.
If you want to be truly digesting scripture on a regular basis, and if you want your devotional to aid you in your quest to hide the Word in your heart, Look Again 52 was designed for you. |
